Some kids I don't know wrote to me

about the way my life is now and how sometimes it really stinks

So inclined to quit, so tied up in knots,
So worked up at the thought of songs that it's making me distraught

A person that I barely know in a country I'm not from
Said it's good to see you again but friend I think your songs are dumb
This was in a big rock club venue show space with a back stage
A big California pop-punk band headlined what could I said except
Maybe you were right, maybe this is wrong
Because do I have to say that hasn't been said all along
So while I played my songs, through the smoke I wonder if they think this is a joke

A magazine that I don't read reviewed my sister's CD
Another solo project by a member of that Michigan three piece
Instead it's the new cool thing to do, playing shows where it's just you
maybe your friends that you are on tour with, but they'll even introduce
And the band's named after you, or what you were called when you were young
You've become it, now you can't run from it

Sometimes I wish I just played in a band
A loud band, a rock band, sing songs about love band
But there's something special that's hard to explain about playing one to one
If everyone does it well everyone does everything
And that's why you stop and you'll never do anything
And there's still them kids that say they understand
