Kimya Dawson - Tire Swing

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lyrics

I took the Polaroid down in my room
I’m pretty sure you have a new girlfriend
It’s not as if I don’t like you
It just makes me sad whenever I see it
'Cause I like to be gone most of the time
And you like to be home most of the time
If I stay in one place I lose my mind
I’m a pretty impossible lady to be with

Joey never met a bike that he didn’t wanna ride
And I never met a Toby that I didn’t like
Scotty liked all of the books that I recommended
Even if he didn’t I wouldn’t be offended

I had a dream that I had to drive to Madison
To deliver a painting for some silly reason
I took a wrong turn and ended up in Michigan
Paul Baribeau took me to the giant tire swing
Gave me a push and he started singing
I sang along while I was swinging
The sound of our voices made us forget everything
That had ever hurt our feelings

Joey never met a bike that he didn’t wanna ride
And I never met a Toby that I didn’t like
Scotty liked all of the books that I recommended
Even if he didn’t I wouldn’t be offended
…wouldn’t be offended

Now I’m home for less than twenty-four hours
That’s hardly time to take a shower
Hug my family and take your picture off the wall
Check my email write a song and make a few phone calls
Before it’s time to leave again
I’ve got one hand on the steering wheel
One waving out the window
If I’m a spinster for the rest of my life
My yarns will keep me warm on cold and lonely nights

Joey never met a bike that he didn’t wanna ride
And I never met a Toby that I didn’t like
Scotty liked all of the books that I recommended
Even if he didn’t I wouldn’t be offended

Woods - Ring Me To Sleep

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lyrics

No girls allowed in the back of the van
No crying now or holding hands
No long-neck birds with its head in its hands
No foreign papers exchanging hands

That lonely siren song you've been hearing in your dream
Is just a chapel bell, and it wakes you every evening
A lonesome song, but it's someone else's blues
Sleep, Sleep, Ring me to sleep

No signs or sirens to keep us out
No silver lining or song about
No mound of islands can make this out
No mound of island can make this out

That lonely siren song you've been hearing in your dream
Is just a chapel bell, and it wakes you every evening
A lonesome song, but it's someone else's blues
Sleep, sleep, ring me to sleep

There's no time to fall in love

Biffy Clyro - Let's Get Smiling

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lyrics

Heart's beating slow again like the leaves,
you're not around, we just laugh and smile
We're indestructible, though the trees,
would kill us if we turn to the other side
Just relax, take your time, it'll be ok

Heart's beating slow again, like the leaves,
when you're not around,we just laugh and smile,
Just relax, slow down, take hold, keep smile,
we all look the same

"Let's Get Smiling' is featured on the B-Side of their single, "Questions and Answers"

Lyrics

Some kids I don't know wrote to me
and said your songs they make me think
about the way my life is now and how sometimes it really stinks
I said I know just what you mean about letting your life flow by
I said it really means a lot to me I hope you come back soon so why do I feel
So inclined to quit, so tied up in knots,
So worked up at the thought of songs that it's making me distraught

A person that I barely know in a country I'm not from
Said it's good to see you again but friend I think your songs are dumb
This was in a big rock club venue show space with a back stage
A big California pop-punk band headlined what could I said except
Maybe you were right, maybe this is wrong
Because do I have to say that hasn't been said all along
So while I played my songs, through the smoke I wonder if they think this is a joke

A magazine that I don't read reviewed my sister's CD
Another solo project by a member of that Michigan three piece
Instead it's the new cool thing to do, playing shows where it's just you
maybe your friends that you are on tour with, but they'll even introduce
And the band's named after you, or what you were called when you were young
You've become it, now you can't run from it

Sometimes I wish I just played in a band
A loud band, a rock band, sing songs about love band
But there's something special that's hard to explain about playing one to one
If everyone does it well everyone does everything
And that's why you stop and you'll never do anything
And there's still them kids that say they understand

Lyrics

Whatever you're doing
I'll let you do it
What if she's suffering
He says
She'll have to suffer then
I guess

Wash your face in the sink
Scrape the rust of your teeth
Dirty water is all you need

She cradles her belly
And talks of a baby
But he wants it out
And out of his life
It's not that he wants her pain to keep
It's just not the way he thought he would go

Wash your face in the sink
Scrape the rust of your teeth
Dirty water is all you need

"Dirty Water" is featured on his album titled Twenty Two.

Paul Baibeau - Never Get to Know

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lyrics

I'll never get to know my friend Steven
He thought he found an answer
He was my firend since kindergarden
And then I watched him disappear.

I'll never get to know my friend Mellisa
She had a baby when she was sixteen
And now she works in a mall in Florida
Sometimes I wonder who she could have been.

I'll never get to know my mom's friend Bonnie
She's the one who made me want to be an artist
She could paint the prettiest pictures
until both her lungs collapsed.
I'll never get to know my mom's friend Harry
He had a low scrattchy growl of a voice
He sing "make me an angel that flies from montgomery"
And then he drank himself to death

I'll never get to know my sister
Because my sister is a crack head
But thank God I remember
When she was just a little kid

I'll never get to know my dad
Because my dad lives in a dream
And even though I think he's the best
He seems so far from everything
And I'll never get to know my mom
Because my mom is an alcholic
And I bet when she was young
She never saw it coming

You might wonder why I'm an asshole
I wonder I'm so uptight
I wonder why I just don't chill out
And learn how to have a good time
But sometimes I'm scared right out of my mind
And sometimes I just get angry
Because I've been let down by the people that I love
But I will not let down the people who love me.

Maps & Atlases - The Ongoing Horrible

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lyrics

Migration to a town where
Tree swallows houses
Migration to a town where
Tree, swallows, houses

Like a match you've started
We're all ageing doubles
We sing, hello, hello, hello
Hello

We danced shoes on shoes
To the sound of the spinning machine
We slept arm-in-arm
So soundly ignoring the outside sounds of the
Ongoing horrible scene

"The Ongoing Horrible" is featured on their EP titled "Trees, Swallows, Houses"

The One Up Downstairs - Rememories

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lyrics

Each place weeps when you leave
Each wake brings memories
Let's just say better days

Will I be seeing you next spring?
Well I hope so
If not, would you skip a stone in your lake for me?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Rememories" is featured on their 3 song, self titled 7"

Owen - Bag of Bones

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lyrics

We bonded over broken bones.
Who's broke skin.
Who's fractured in two places.
Who's hurt the most.

We bonded over broken bones.
How many vicodin we took before bed.
How many we sold to the band sleeping on our floor,
week one of a two week tour.
My god knows they'll need it more than I.

You and me and an x-ray machine.
I swear that day you saw straight through me.

We're two bags of bones,
broken and talking of people we both know in common
amongst other things that I shouldn't mention.

You and me.
A hospital love scene.
If only these broken bodies were ours forever...

"Bag of Bones" is featured on his LP titled "At Home With Owen"

Into It. Over It. - Augusta, GA

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lyrics

Flipping through the pages of our diary
A memoirs worth of messages from you and me
Both good and bad advice
Recalling should-haves and could-haves
A distance from both of our worst enemies

On this page Mississippi John Hurt plays
With a hand on your neck and a hand around my waist
It causes trouble
And I've had it all with these slow dancing Sundays
Some red wine, a summer dress, a pair of hand-rolled cigarettes
We're descriptive to keep with descriptions
We're convicts to lack of conviction

So...
Skip to the back and read the index
Put your trust in the dust sleeves of hardbacks
Cause it's as fleeting as the feeling of being eighteen again
I've turned the tables
It's your house in Georgia now
We're seeming stable despite mistakes that we'd allow
Can't blame the past this time around
So please don't make a sound
Cause I'm shaking hands with common sense
I'm bridging gaps from innocence to versed
I'm telling you, we're cursed

Flipping through the pages our diary...
