Decided to change the name of my blog to Tougher Than Buffer.
Buffer is the last name of the main octagon announcer for Zuffa main events. I thought it had a nice touch to it with the rhyme and all. It's not as straight shooting as "UFC GIFS", but I think it will appeal to ufc fans more.

I decided to change the banner on my blog to this -

Just to let people know, in banner form, what the blog is mainly about!

giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiifs

http://www.ufcgifs.tumblr.com/

Reeeet, I decided earlier today to create a tumblog for my gifs. This is really a personal project for myself. It kind of gives my little creations a purpose. I hope that people will become interested in my blog and use the images for their own personal use and viewing pleasure. Once I have created a fair few GIFS I may start to promote the blog and showcase it to everyone. At least at the moment I am tagging the images, so people who are interested in the UFC may explore posts with the "ufc" tag and hopefully wells tumble across my blog.

I've tried to customize the layout to the blog as close as I could get to the ufc website. I just ended following the same colour scheme. I might ask a friend for some help with the layout as he is much better at coding than I am.

I made my own logo for the blog too. I tried to replicate the UFC logo as much as I can, I found a font called "gunship" and had to edit it quite a bit. I'm happy with how it looks, but I may change it in the future. I think the whole layout may need changing to achieve a professional look.

geeeetar

Got the main guitar part down for my song. I have lyrics and everything ready for when the house is empty again to record. Got pretty lucky today as no one was home for a hours throughout the day. Still had to play a lot with levels and how I was going to record it. I tried to do a live rendition, but nothing sounded full enough. So I went with the standard one track in the right are and the other in the left and I'll record the vocal straight down the middle. I may add some percussion if needs be, might get my bro to step up with some ideas as he's a beter drummer than I am. Hopefully I should have the track ready by the end of the week!!!

Video: research.1

(directed by Michael)

I really like the way this music video has been filmed. This guy called 'Michael' has filmed all the recent Yuck music videos. I can't find his last name anywhere so I can't really look for anything else that he has directed. This is my favourite one that he has done for the band. Mainly because I enjoy the song and the way the video compliments it.

This particular songs monotonous dull sound and the zoomed focal point, along with the repetition that coincides with the beat fits perfectly together. I like how there is a story within this music video too. It seems the girl is somehow fascinated with grooming dogs and can relate it to the grooming of herself. It's seems to me like she is trying to achieve perfection with herself as well as the dogs that she grooms, as she appears to be upset at th end and with the flashbacks to her in the shower. There's also an underlying tone of this girl participating in beastyality with the way she bites and licks her lips whilst cleaning the dogs. Also in the the repetition of different shots, especially when the dog and the girls hand are both in the shot at the same time. It's makes it look like she is caressing the dogs in a sexual manner. Or maybe the grooming of the dog reminds her of the way she touches herself in the shower and it excites her?!?!

I'm not too fond of the way everything changes to a pinkish shade towards the end, but I do like how the different shots are overlaid. The video consists of really short snippets of footage. This type of filming and editing really makes this music video interesting to me. I seem to get lost within it.

Here are the lyrics to the song :-

If I put rubber in your head,
would you make something that time will stand?
I've tried painting on the walls
but I've done nothing that stands alone.
If I put rubber in your skin,
would you move around and rub it in?
I've tried painting from the inside out,
but I've done nothing that I can shout about.
Should I give in?
If I put rubber in your hand,
would you make me into a man?
Put me on a chain and change my name
and lead me to the place that I need to go.
Aaah
Yes, I give in

Camera test.1

I was talking to Nick in a tutorial about what style and look I was hoping to achieve with my video. I told him I wanted the aesthetics of the video to reflect the sounds and the style of music which I create. I told him about this one camera that produce lomography style photos and videos but in digital format. He said the lomography cameras are all the rage at the moment and after listening to a previous song that I recorded, he thought this style would go well with the music.

The camera that I found is called "DIGITAL HARINEZUMI"...

It's made in Japan by a company called Superheadz and costs around £70 pounds on Ebay! I recently got a bonus at work so I decided to purchase one. This is a test shot I got of my dog, Jazz...

Here I was just playing around with the two settings that are available to use. There's the normal view and the Macro view, which has a focal view of approximately 3cm. I am really enjoying and pleased with the look that this camera is giving. Especially the macro setting on the second half of the video. This was filmed on a rather sunny day and there is plenty of glare involved. I'm not too sure about the out of focus look, I'm reckoning it will be hard to find a balance with the two focal settings if I chose to use them both within my video. Once I start filming it I will try and film plenty within both the settings on every subject I chose to shoot so at least I have the option in the end.

The camera doesn't produce a decent enough quality video in dim lit settings. This was filmed in my living room at night with the lights on. If i use this camera it will be best to film on a fairly sunny day. I really enjoy using this camera and I'm excited with anticipation as to what the video will end up like. I could probably use a better quality camera and try and edit to get this effect within final cut, but to save time as I'm not as experienced with the software I would rather go with this camera.

gifffffs

I'm really enjoying making gifs too much. I'm going to aim to make one as often as I can and post them all on a new blog, may call it 'gifs galore' or something shite like that x

video - song recording

Had a go at recording the song for the music I wish to make this morning. I was mainly trying to work with what i have at home, before I chose whether or not to take my geetar into college to record there.

This was the interface I have, it's pretty simple to use. Just plug in an go really. Only has mic input and output knobs and one mixing knob. And a button to change from mono to stereo.

This is the mic that has been forced upon me. I used to own a sweet sennheiser mic, but I lent it to a friend to use and he broke it. So they gave me this shitty thing in it's place. It's barely picks anything up if you turn the input just below full and when it's on full it picks up too much. I've recorded some stuff with it before, like this track me and my friend did here -

http://hopwood.bandcamp.com/

The sound is ok, but it seems too quiet for my liking. So today I've just been playing around with the level and various things within garageband. I may even purchase a new microphone if I feel the need.

I hung the mic from the light in my room as I don't have a stand. I think I'm going to have to wait until my house is empty to try and record something next time!!!

v.3

I will hopefully be screen printing this piece at my elective. If it goes well and I figure out a way to make the registration perfect, I will definitely continue to make a series of these portraits and sell them as prints.

UFC GIF - BRIEF

"I want to create a new blog that is aimed at UFC fans, which is frequently updated with new, exciting and weird gifs of the stars of the UFC"

I'm am really keen on creating gif images and I'm a massive fan of the UFC, so I thought a will have a go at combining the two. I wanted to pick a topic that had a lot of content to work with and that appealed to a specific audience for their own visual pleasure. I will try and relate to current topics within the UFC community and try and give the subjects a humorous twist, whilst aiming to try and develop my own style within creating gifs that will be unique to my blog, and will hopefully entice people into following my blog.

v.2

3 colour rule

This is a piece I created for my print elective, coming up in April.

The figure that I've created is a portrait of the man in the rocking chair from the RAG piece I did the other week. I'm really pleased with how it's coming on, I just feel that it's not quite there yet. Not too sure on what colours to choose, will hopefully gain more knowledge on the subject during Christian's colour theory lecture.

RAG print

Finished the prints for the RAG fete today, after failing at it on Tuesday. One will be featured in the raffle and a few are going to be sold on one of the stalls for £2 each. I am very pleased with how they've turned out and I wish that I printed more for the stall. Pretty gutted that I'm absent for the fete as I'm off on a barge for the weekend, but I hope they sell well and raise a few quid for charity.

The brief I set myself was to silk screen a limited run of prints to sell at the rag fair. To create a kind of souvenir for a select few people to take away with them to remember to the first rag week that took place at our college. There wasn't much development work that went into this design, as I wanted to get the ball rolling with this project and to prove to myself that i can at least create something satisfactory without having to do any development work. I think I achieved this very well with this brief and I am happy with what I created.

21/02/11

Last Monday I sold my screen printed posters for the show at Royal Park Cellars. It was an awesome show and I had the best of fun. I ended up making and numbered 25 posters all together. I gave away a few to the bands and received a free tee (which I gave to Comoron Thorno) and a CD . I ended up making around £50 for the touring bands and received a lot of positive feedback about the posters. JD was really impressed with what I had done and he is wanting me to do more limited posters for his up and coming shows. I also gave my e-mail to a guy who is setting up a record label and is wanting some screen printing doing, I hope to hear from him soon. It was the first time.
